C40 is a global network of nearly 100 cities of the world’s leading cities that are united in action to confront the climate crisis. The group has been taking actions with the aim of halving the pollutant emissions of its members in the next decade, in order to improve the health and well-being conditions of their populations and ensure the preservation of the environment for future generations.
In Brazil, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro is one of the signatory cities of C40. Aligned with the objectives of C40, Rio de Janeiro has created a pilot area called the Low Emission District - in the downtown region of the city - with the aim of implementing programs to reduce atmospheric pollutant emissions, with the commitment to achieve zero emissions in that area by the year 2030.
In partnership with C40, EcoSoft was chosen to assist the municipality of Rio de Janeiro in the design and implementation of the air quality monitoring plan for the Low Emission District.
Among the important activities carried out, EcoSoft provided and installed two monitors ECOPM for the continuous and automated monitoring of suspended particulate matter concentrations in the Low Emission District area.
The information continuously collected by the ECOPM monitors and the automatic air quality monitoring station SMAC Centro will demonstrate the air quality benefits resulting from gradual actions to reduce atmospheric pollutant emissions in the Low Emission District.
EcoSoft feels greatly honored to be part of this project, whose implementation will bring better health to all residents and workers in downtown Rio.
